Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Adsorption/desorption

The Koc value of 209.41 l/kg calculated using the TGD equation suggests that 2-nitrotoluene would be highly mobile in soil and would adsorb slightly to suspended solids and sediments in water (EU Risk Assessment, 2008).

Henry's Law constant

Several measured values, 5.673 Pa.m3/mol and 5.343 Pa.m3/mol, are mentioned in the SIDS Assessment Report of the OECD, 1994 (EU Risk Assessment (2008)). The Henry's Law constant of 2-nitrotoluene was reported as 6.1 Pa.m³/mol at 20 °C (BUA Report, 1989). The Henry's law constant's value was calculated with the software EPI Suite (HENRYWIN v. 3.10). The QSAR calculation resulted in the following value (bond method): 2.38 Pa*m³/mol at 25°C (QSAR calculation, Bayer Industry Services, 2006).

Distribution modelling

Based on the model calculations (Mackay level I, v.2.11), the target compartment for the environmental distribution of o-nitrotoluene is air.
