Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

A study investigating the toxicity of ethyl 3,5 -dichloro-4 -hexadecyloxycarbonyloxybenzoate (AF-366) in algae was conducted by Bruns (2003). This test was performed according to EU Method C.3, method equivalent to OECD Guideline 201, under GLP conditions.Desmodesmus subspicatus was exposed to a single concentration of 100 mg/L (nominal, filtered solution (7-12 µm)) for 72 hours (3 replicates). Additionally, one replicate was included in the experimental set-up that contained test substance, but no algae. Analytical measurements of actual test concentrations were not performed.

No adverse effects on algal biomass or growth rate were reported after the 72-hour exposure period. However, a slight hormetic effect could be observed when comparing mean cell growth and cell growth rates with those in the controls, with an increase of 17.3% and 2.9% respectively, which however were not significant. Therefore, the 72h-EC50 was > 100 mg/L (nominal).

In conclusion, AF-366 is not toxic to algae within the range of its water solubility (≤ 0.078 mg/L).
