Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Environmental distribution of a chemical is dependent of various intrinsic properties of the substance.

In the present case, no distribution modeling was available however physico-chemical properties can indicate the preferred compartment of Phosphinic acid:

-         The substance is highly soluble in water showing solubility at 20°C in all the proportions tested (up to 100g/L) and is considered as hydrolytically stable with an half-life equals to 1 year at 25°C.

-         In addition volatilization of the substance is not expected due to very low Vapour pressure equals to 0.43 Pa at 25°C.

-         Finally, the substance is considered to have a low potential for adsorption considering the highest Koc value equals to 15 at 20°C. Desorption of the substance from the same soil showed 24% of recovery of the adsorbed amount after 48h.

All these properties indicate clearly that the preferred compartment for Phosphinic acid is the water compartment followed, for a low fraction, by the soil and sediment compartment (depending on the pH and composition of soils) and finally atmospheric compartment with very low amounts expected.
