Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
800 mg/L

Additional information

A short-term respiration inhibition test according to OECD guideline 209 using domestic activated sludge as inoculum was identified as key study. After 180 minutes an EC10 of 800 mg/L and an EC50 >1000 mg/L were estimated, related to the nominal concentration.

A preliminary test with activated sludge was performed according to OECD 209 to determine the respiration inhibition potential of the test item. The test item was tested at 10, 100, 1000 mg/L. After 3 hours no dose responce or respiration ihibition on the activated sludge was observed. The 3-h EC50 was determined to be >1000 mg/L. Therefore, no definitive test was performed.
