Conclusion on classification

Dimethyl propylphosphonate is not legally classified.

Dimethyl propylphosphonate is not classified as dangerous or harmful to the environment. The following data has to be considered for classification:

- acute toxicity to aquatic organisms: No effect values could be determined due to a lack of toxicity within the range tested.

- short-term toxicity testing to fish: LC0(96h): >= 99.1 mg/L

- short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates: EC0(48h): >= 90 mg/L

- growth inhibition study to aquatic plants: NOEC(72h): >= 88.4 mg/L

- biodegradability: Dimethyl propylphosphonate is not readily biodegradable with 5% biodegradation after 28 days.

Further the substance is not poorly soluble in water and due to a low Log Kow (0.5) there is no significant potential for bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms.

The data listed above shows that a classification of dimethyl propylphosphonate in the environment is not justified.
