Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

teflubenzuron = active substance (a.s.)

Short-term acute toxicity to fish

In an acute flow-through test with L. macrochirus following a method similar to OECD TG 203 the 96-hour LC 50 of the test item was determined to be > 0.0065 mg a.s./L. Supporting information of semi-static acute toxicity studies with the metabolites CL 902374 (CFPU) and CL 902373 (CFA) are available. In these studies with P. promelas the 96-hour LC50 values of the metabolites were > 7.8 mg CFPU/L (mean measured) and 6.74 mg CFA/L (nominal).

Long-term toxicity to fish
In a flow-through test with O. mykiss following a method similar to OECD TG 215 the 28-day NOEC of the test item was determined to be > 0.0186 mg a.s./L.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
In a 48 h static acute toxicity study with Daphnia magna according to OECD 202, the EC50 of the test item was determined to be 0.0028 mg a.s./L based on mean measured concentrations. Supporting information of acute toxicity studies with the metabolites of the test item CL 902374 (CFPU) and CL 902373 (CFA) are available. In these studies with D. magna the 48-hour EC50 values of CFU was 15.1 mg CFPU/L (mean measured) and 1.48 mg CFA/L (nominal).

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
In a semi-static test with Daphnia magna according to OECD TG 211 the 21-day NOEC of the test item was determined to be 0.062 µg a.s./L (nominal concentration). Based on a study with the marine invertebrate Mysidopsis bahia the 27-day NOEC of the test item was determined to be 0.043 µg a.s./L (mean measured concentration).

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria
In a 96 h static toxicity study on the growth of the green algae Desmodesmus subspicatus according to EEC Directive 92/69 method C.3 (1992), the EC50 and the NOEC of the test item were determined to be ≥ 0.02 mg a.s./L based on nominal concentrations. Supporting information of toxicity studies on algal growth with the metabolites CL 902374 (CFPU) and CL 902373 (CFA) are available. In these studies with P. subcapitata the 96-hour EC50 values of CFU was > 9.7 mg CFPU/L (mean measured) and 2.99 mg CFA/L (mean measured).

Toxicity to aquatic plants other than algae
No study on the toxicity to aquatic plants other than algae are available.

Toxicity to micororganisms
In an activated sludge respiration inhibition test according to OECD TG 209 the 3-hour EC50 for the test item was determined to be > 1000 mg a.s./L (nominal).
