Objective of study:
metabolism
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Pyrogallol was adiminister to 4 adult albno rats by stomach tube or ip injection (100 mg/khg). After 24 h , urine samples were collected, extracted with ether and analyzed by TLC. Some of them were hydrolized acidic hydrolysis) before analysis..

Results and discussion

Main ADME results
Type:
metabolism
Results:
Pyrogallol was not detected in non hydrolyzed samples but was detected in those hydrolyzed, together with spots corresponding to resorcinol. This indicated that pyrogallol might be metabolized to resorcinol

Metabolite characterisation studies

Metabolites identified:
yes
Details on metabolites:
Pyrogallol was not detected in non hydrolyzed samples but was detected in those hydrolyzed, together with spots corresponding to resorcinol. This indicated that pyrogallol might be metabolized to resorcinol

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Pyrogallol was not detected in non hydrolyzed samples but was detected in those hydrolyzed, together with spots corresponding to resorcinol. This indicated that pyrogallol might be metabolized to resorcinol
Executive summary:

When pyrogallol was administered by gavage or i.p. injection to albino rats (sex not provided) at 100 mg/kg (0.79 mmol/kg), unchanged pyrogallol, 2-O-methylpyrogallol, and traces of resorcinol were detected in the urine. Pyrogallol was not detected in non hydrolyzed samples but was detected in those hydrolyzed, together with spots corresponding to resorcinol. This indicated that pyrogallol might be metabolized to resorcinol
