The complex composed of boron trifluoride and acetonitrile is extremely water sensitive and is even reacting with moist air. Both of these compounds were regarded below.

Acetonitrile:

The read across substance (acetonitrile) was determined to be readily biodegradable by non-acclimated activated sludge according to OECD guideline 310 (Brixham Environmental Laboratories, 2010). More than 60% degradation was achieved within the 10-day window, so the test item can be classified as readily biodegradable.

BF3:

According to Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 Annex VII 9.2.1.1 column 2 the study for ready biodegradability does not need to be conducted if the substance is inorganic. Boron trifluoride is an inorganic substance.
