Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance is highly flammable.
The substance has no pyrophoric properties and does not liberate flammable gases in contact with water.
The substance is not a self-reactive substance or mixture.
The substance is not a self-heating substance or mixture.
The substance is not an organic peroxide.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
highly flammable

Additional information

Flammability derived from flash point and boiling point: The flash and the boiling point of this liquid test substance was determined to be 8°C and 85.5°C, respectively. Thus, the substance is considered to be a highly flammable liquid (R11 and cat. 2; H225).
Based on chemical structure, pyrophoric properties are not to be expected.
In the key study of flammability in contact with water, the test substance is not considered as highly flammable (BASF SE, 2015).

The substance is not a self-reactive substance or mixture as the heat of decomposition is greater than 300 J/g, but the onset temperature is greater than 200 °C (see IUCLID section 4.19).
The substance or mixture does not need to be classified as self-heating as the substance is a liquid.
The substance or mixture does not to be classified as an organic peroxide as by definition based on their chemical structure, the substance is no organic peroxide.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Dangerous Substance Directive (67/548/EEC)

Based on the chemical structure and taking into account the provisions laid down in Directive 67/548/EEC, as amended for the 31st time in Directive 2009/2/EG, the substance is considered to be classified as highly flammable (R11) and not considered to be classified as flammable in contact with water or pyrophoric.

Classification, Labelling, and Packaging Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008

Based on the chemical structure and taking into account the provisions laid down in Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, as amended for the sixth time in Regulation (EC) No 605/2014, the substance is considered to be classified as highly flammable liquid (cat. 2 H225), and is not considered to be classified as flammable in contact with water, pyrophoric, self-reactive substance, self heating substance or organic peroxide.
