Due to its physical-chemical properties (moderate solubility, low adsorption coefficient value and low vapour pressure), the main target compartment of diisopropylbenzene hydroperoxide should be the water compartment for which following data are available:

 

The ready biodegradability of the test item diisopropylbenzene hydroperoxide was determined in the Closed Bottle test performed according to slightly modified OECD (OECD TG 301), EU and ISO Test Guidelines, and in compliance with the OECD principles of Good Laboratory Practice. Diisopropylbenzene hydroperoxide was not biodegraded in the Closed Bottle test (28 days and prolonged) and should therefore not be classified as readily biodegradable.

 

A hydrolysis study showed that diisopropylbenzene hydroperoxide is hydrolytically stable under acid, neutral and basic conditions. However, strong hydrolysis was observed at pH 1.2, the half-life was determined to be 28.2 hours (pH 1.2, 37°C)

 

Acute ecotox tests have shown that the substance should be considered as toxic to fish and daphnids, and harmful to algae. However diisopropylbenzene hydroperoxide has no potential to cause toxic effects if accumulated in the higher food chain.
