Additional information

One reliable study is available for this endpoint. Diefenbach (1998) performed an acute toxicity test on earthworm (Eisenia foetida foetida) according to EC guideline 88/302 and under GLP procedure. In this limit test animals were tested at 1000 mg/kg dw during 14 days (nominal concentration). No vehicle was used.

DEHP showed no acute toxicity to earthworm at the limit concentration of 1000 mg/kg (dw) This NOEC cannot be normalised since the organic contents of the test soil was not reported.

In a supporting study, the effect of DEHP on the earthworm, was also tested in a short-term contact test (Neuhauser et al., 1985). No effect was observed at the highest concentration tested, 25 mg DEHP/cm2 (nominal). DEHP was the least toxic compound among 44 tested. This result indicates that DEHP is not very harmful to soil organisms. Whether not reliable since the DEHP was added to a filter paper, this result supports the key study result.
