Referenceopen allclose all
The test item, technical substance, is not a highly flammable solid in the sense of EU Method A.10.
The test item could not be ignited with a flame in the preliminary test. The test item melted.
The test item, pure substance, is not a highly flammable solid in the sense of EU Method A.10.
The test item could not be ignited with a flame in the preliminary test.
The test item is not classified in Division 4.2 (self-heating substances) according to UN RTDG due to the fact that a negative result was obtained in the test using a 10 cm sample cube at 138 °C, according to the UN Test N.4.
Test in 10 cm sample cube at an oven temperature of 137 °C:
The oven temperature was adjusted to 140 °C. The temperature of the oven reached only 137 °and the test item temperature showed 138 °C. This could be explained to the different position of the two thermocouples. But these effects are not relevant for the result of the test. No exothermic effect has been observed at an oven temperature 137 °C for 20 h. At a temperature of approx. 117 °during the heat-up phase the test item melted and was flowed out of the basket. After approx. 21 hours the measurement was terminated, the mesh wire basket was empty.
The temperature of the test item did not exceed the oven temperature during the whole test.
Description of key information
Pure substance and technical substance: No ignition in the preliminary burning rate test (EU Method A.10).
Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.
The Bowes-Cameron Cage Test showed a negative result (UN Test N.4), and therefore the substance does not need to be considered for classification as self-heating.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- not classified
Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:
No ignition in a test according EU Method A.10.
Based on chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.
The Bowes-Cameron Cage Test showed a negative result (UN Test N.4), therefore the substance does not need to be considered for classification as self-heating substance.
