Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
February the 12th, 2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: Grewer Oven Test.VDI 2263, sheet 1
Version / remarks:
1990
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks on result:
no self ignition observed under the test conditions

In the investigation of self-ignition of the pure test item in the Grewer Oven showed one small endothermic effect in the temperature range of 45 °C up to 120 °C and one exothermic effect. The pure test item showed a self-heating starting at 275 °C to a maximum temperature of 440 °C. After the measurement a black powder remained in the basket.

For the test item in mixture with Kieselguhr one small endothermic effect in the temperature range of 45 °C up to 120 °C was detected, too: Up to an oven temperature of 400 °C no self-heating occured. After the measurement a light grey residue remained in the basket.

On the basis of the results of the screening test on the self-ignition in the Grewer Oven the test item is not a self-heating substance according to UN Transport Regulation.

Conclusions:
Not self-heating
Executive summary:

The self-ignition behavior of the product is determined in the Grewer Oven according to VDI 2263, sheet 1.

Conclusion

On the basis of the results of the screening test on the self-ignition in the Grewer Oven, the test item is not a self-heating substance according to UN Transport Regulation.
