Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Information concerning melting/freezing point of di-isopropyl ether was sourced from two separate handbooks. Merck Index: An Encyclopedia of Chemicals, Drugs, and Biologicals (14th Edition) and CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (81st Ed), which are known to contain peer-reviewed data of Klimisch-2 reliability state that the substance has a melting point of -85.89 to -86.8 °C (corresponding to 186.35 to 187.26 K). The survey of published literature data carried out by NIST identified only two values for the melting point, agreeing with Dreisbach (1949).

The value determined by Dreisbach (1949) is likely the primary source for the value reported in the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics. No information on the atmospheric pressure was reported. The available data is considered to be adequate and complete for use in classification and labelling as well as risk assessment purposes.
