Test material

Constituent 1
Details on test material:
- Purity: > 90%
- Physical properties: solid, red
- Storage conditions: room temperature

Test animals / tissue source

Species:
rabbit
Strain:
New Zealand White
Details on test animals or tissues and environmental conditions:
TEST ANIMALS
- Source: Dr. K. Thomae GMBH Chemisch-pharmazeutische Fabrik D-7950 Biberach/Riss
- Age at study initiation: 9- 13 weeks old
- Weight at study initiation: 2540 to 2780 gr
- Housing: the animals were housed individually in metal cages
- Diet: ad libitum standard rabbit pellet
- Water: ad libitum fresh water
- Acclimation period: at least 5 days

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Temperature: 20 +/- 3°C
- Humidity: 30-70 %
- Photoperiod: 12 hours light cycle day

Test system

Vehicle:
unchanged (no vehicle)
Controls:
other: The right eye remained untreated and served as a control.
Amount / concentration applied:
0.1 mL (90 mg)
Duration of treatment / exposure:
The eyes were treated with the test substance and were not washed therefore duration of treatment is not clearly defined and is then maximally the duration of observation.
Observation period (in vivo):
7 days (Because reactions were observed within 72 hours after instillation of the test article, the observation period was extended to 7 days to
determine the reversibility of the eye reactions).
Number of animals or in vitro replicates:
3 animals
Details on study design:
REMOVAL OF TEST SUBSTANCE
- Not done

SCORING SYSTEM: according to the OECD scoring system

TOOL USED TO ASSESS SCORE: hand-slit lamp
