Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Because of the stringency of the method, low values do not necessarily mean that EDTN is not biodegradable under environmental conditions, but indicates more work will be necessary to establish biodegradability. The OECD tests do only detect growth-linked biodegradation. Degradation of EDTN (removal of ammonium through hydrolysis by a cometabolic (fortuitous) process) is envisaged.

However, EDTN is used as an intermediate with no release to the environment.

At 25 degrees C, the half-life of PDTN, a structural analogue of EDTN (see also at item 13) was calculated to be 0.3 years (pH 9), 3.9 years (pH 7) and 5.3 years (pH 4).

The average measured Koc value for Ethylenediamine tetraacetonitrile (EDTN) is < 32 (Log Koc < 1.5). This indicates that EDTN will be mobile in soil.
