Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

OECD Test Guideline 105 (water solubility) is not applicable because the test substance is not sufficiently stable to obtain equilibrium. (For details see 5.1.2). In a simplified preliminary test based on OECD Test Guidelines 105 (water solubility) and 111 (hydrolysis as a function of pH) as well as on the corresponding EU methods the water solubility of isophorone diisocyanate was determined to be approximately 15 mg/l at 23 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
15 mg/L
at the temperature of:
23 °C

Additional information

The presence of 1 % (v/v) solubilizer acetonitrile increased the contact between the test substance and the aqueous phase initially, thereby accelerating the formation of a saturated solution, but may have increased the observed solubility. On the other hand, hydrolysis may have depleted the test substance concentration in the aqueous phase faster than could be compensated by transfer of unhydrolyzed molecules from the organic phase.
