Additional information

Based on the aquatic toxicity data, the test substance is not classified as hazardous to the environment in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008

Conclusion on classification

The results from the acute aquatic toxicity studies (performed at the limit of solubility of HMX) are as follows:

96 hr LC 50 (for fish) > 15 mg/l (nominal concentration)

48 hr EC 50 (for daphnia) > 15 mg/l (nominal concentration)

72 hr ErC 50 (for algae) > 2.61 mg/l (measured concentration)

Based on these results, the lowest acute E(L)C50 is higher than 1 mg/L. Therefore, the registered substance is not classified as acute 1 to aquatic organisms in accordance with the classification of the CLP (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008).

In addition, adequate chronic toxicity data available for fish, crustacea and algae:

32 d NOEC (for fish) > 3.3 mg/l (measured concentration)

28 d NOEC (for Daphnia) >3.9 mg/l (measured concentration)

72 hr ErC 10 (for algae) > 2.61 mg/l (measured concentration)

CLP Classification proposal:

It is proposed to compare submission substance dataset to CLP environmental criteria laid down in CLP Regulation:

- Acute aquatic hazard: not classified. Reasoning: lowest E(L)C50 greater than 1 mg/L.

- Chronic aquatic hazard: not classified. Reasoning: Non-rapidly degradable substance for which there are adequate chronic toxicity data available, lowest chronic NOEC or EC10 value greater than 1 mg/L.

Conclusion on classification:

According to the CLP Regulation 1272/2008 the substance HMX is not classified hazardous to the aquatic environment.
