Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In an unpublished study reported in this review article, the acute toxicity of chromium nitrate to Daphnia magna at 5 water hardnesses was measured and the 48-hr EC50 ranged from 16.8 mg chromium/L in soft water to 57.8 mg chromium/L in hard water.

Estimated EC50 ca 42 mg/l for chromium hydroxychloride

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Data on chloride suggests tolerance by freshwater species to be in excess of 100 mg/l Cl.

Many 'freshwater' sources have chloride > 100 mg/l.

Standard OECD hard test-water contains > 100 mg/l
