Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Long-term toxicity of Diisodecyl azelate to fish is not expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There is no study on the long-term toxicity to fish available for Diisodecyl azelate (CAS 28472-97-1). The test substance is described as an unknown, variable composition, complex reaction product or biological material (UVCB) under REACH. However, available short term studies in fish, invertebrates and algae all indicate no potential for aquatic toxicity for this substance. Furthermore, due to its ready biodegradability it is not likely that aquatic organisms are chronically exposed to this substance since it will be ultimately degraded in sewage treatment plants. In addition, the ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7b (ECHA, 2012b) states that “chronic fish toxicity testing is generally only necessary, when the P and B criteria are fulfilled” and this is clearly not the case.Hence due to animal welfare reasons and to avoid unnecessary vertebrate tests, no further long-term test with fish is required for Diisodecyl azelate.
