Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The vapour pressure of p-toluenesulfonyl isocyanate was found to be 0.025 Pa at 25ºC.
The vapour pressure of p-toluenesulfonamide (PTSA), the decomposition product of PTSI, was also determined for risk assessment purposes and was found to be < 0.000286 Pa at 20ºC.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Vapour pressure:
0.025 Pa
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

The vapour pressure of p-Toluenesulfonyl Isocyanate was determined in an in-house, non GLP study using the boiling point method. The boiling temperature of the substance was determined at six different pressures. Based on linear regression the vapour pressure at 25°C was predicted to be 2.47E-7 Atm. or 0.000188 mm Hg (equivalent to 0.025 Pa).

A value for vapour pressure of the metabolite p-toluenesulfonamide (PTSA, CAS 70-55-3) is also required for risk assessment. The vapour pressure for PTSA, obtained in a non-GLP test according to ASTM E1782-08 using Differential Scanning Calorimetry, is < 0.000286 Pa at 20ºC.
