Two guideline studies on the acute toxicity of Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd., triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS 68002-78-8) to fish are available (Bouillon, 2012, Grell, 2012). Both studies were conducted in compliance with OECD Guideline 203. Zebra fish (Danio rerio) were exposed to the substance for 96 hours in a static test system. At the end of the exposure period LL50 values >102 mg/L and >110 mg/L were determined. The test results are based on the nominal concentration of the water accommodated fraction (WAF) of the test substance. Based on the results of the acute toxicity test toxic effects on fish are not expected up to the water solubility limit of the substance (< 0.05 mg/L; Frischmann 2012). As it can be seen in the data matrix of the category justification in section 13 and the overall endpoint summary, IUCLID 6.1, all reliable data in the category support the hazard assessment of each category member by showing a consistent pattern of results within the polyol esters category, i.e. no toxic effects to aquatic organisms were observed up to the limit of water solubility.
