Executive summary:

The octanol-water partition coefficient of violuric acid was determined according to OECD test guideline no. 107: 'Partition Coefficient (n-octanol/water): Shake Flask Method'.

Violuric acid is an ionized substance and therefore, the test was performed at pH 2.0 where test the test substance is in undissociated form to ensure worst case scenario for parttition into the octanol phase.

Volume ratios for 1 -octanol and water phase were selected according to the OECD guidance and the 1 -octanol: water ratios were as follows: Condition 1) 1:2, condition 2) 1:1 and condition 3) 2:1. Duplicate tests were performed for each test condition. The 1 -octanol phase were prior to the test saturated with the buffer solution (10 mmol/L potassium dihydrogen phosphate) and vice versa. The test item was dissolved in the buffer solutiuon saturated with 1 -octanol and measured with HPLC. After the end of the test test substance concentration in each phase was measured by HPLC.

The range of logPow value was -1,28 to -1.14 and were within the range of +/- 0.3 units and the material balance was > 98%. The test was thgus considered reliable.

In conclusion, the logPow of VA is -1.2 at 25°C.
