Additional information

Experimental data on the chronic toxicity of 1,2-Ethanediamine, N-{3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl}-,N-{(ethenylphenyl)methyl}derivate, hydrochlorides (CAS 171869-89-9) towards aquatic invertebrates are not available. Therefore, in accordance with the Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 “Grouping of substances and read across” and the read across assessment framework (RAAF, ECHA 2017) a read across from the analogue substance reaction mass containing six benzylated amine silanes (EC 700-961-2) has been performed. Details on the read-across justification can be found in the attached justification in the respective target entry and in the overall justification for grouping of substances attached in IUCLID Section 13.

The long-term effects of reaction mass containing six benzylated amine silanes to freshwater invertebrates were evaluated in a 21 d GLP-study according to the OECD guideline 211 (2004). The test item degrades in water rapidly into oligomeric and polymeric silicon compounds. Therefore, it is assumed that the test organisms were exposed to both the parent and to the hydrolysis products of the substance. A quantification of the test item based on the analysis of silicon was not possible due to the relatively high silicon concentration of the test water (M7-medium) used in this test. Therefore, biological results are based on the nominal concentrations of the test item. Daphnia magna was exposed in a semi-static system to nominal test item concentrations of 0.32, 1.0, 3.2, 10, 32 and 100 mg/L. The test resulted in a NOEC (21 d) of 0.32 mg/L (nominal) and a LOEC (21 d) of 1.0 mg /L (nominal) for the parameters reproduction and survival of adults.

Chronic aquatic effects were observed for the analogue substance and as explained in the attached read across justification (see IUCLID target entry) similar results are expected for 1,2-Ethanediamine, N-{3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl}-, N-{(ethenylphenyl)methyl}derivate, hydrochlorides (CAS 171869-89-9).
