Toxicity to sediment organisms is not a standard information requirement
in Annex IX. Therefore the equilibrium partitioning method has been used
for the PNEC sediment derivation.
derivation for sediment for Sodium
the absence of measured data the PNECsed can provisionally be
calculated using the equilibrium partitioning method (EPM). According to
the TGD this method uses the PNECaquatic and the
sediment/water partitioning coefficient as inputs.
The PNECsed is then calculated using the equations detailed
in the TGD:
PNECsed = Ksusp-water* PNECaquatic
dissolved* 1000 * 1 / RHOsusp
PNECaquatic = 138
Kd susp =
FOCsusp-sed* Koc = 0.10 * 3162 =316.2 L/kg
RHOsusp = 1150
9.59 mg/kg ww
= 44.1 mg/kg dw
