Toxicological information

Skin irritation / corrosion

Currently viewing:

Administrative data

Endpoint:
skin irritation: in vitro / ex vivo
Type of information:
read-across based on grouping of substances (category approach)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Justification for type of information:
Octafluoropropane is a gas, making testing difficult. However, numerous studies have shown that saturated perfluorocarbons as a class as not irritating to skin.

Results and discussion

In vitro

Results
Irritation / corrosion parameter:
% tissue viability
Run / experiment:
mean
Value:
ca. 91.7
Remarks on result:
no indication of irritation
Other effects / acceptance of results:
The relative mea viability of the test item treated tissues was 91.7% after a 15 minute exposure period. The quality criteria for acceptance of results in the test were satisfied.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The test item was considered to be non-irritant. Together with the results from other saturated perfluorocarbons, we can be confident octafluoropropane is not irritating.
Executive summary:

Octafluoropropane is non-irritant.
