Description of key information

A.11 method - lower flammability limit is expected to be between 8% and 10% (w/w) and the upper flammability limit lower than 14%.
ASTM method - lower flammability limit 6.2%, upper flammability limit 12.3%

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
extremely flammable

Additional information

Based on these results the lower flammability limit is expected to be between 8% and 10% (w/w) and the upper flammability limit lower than 14%. Based on additional testing using a methodology that deviates from the A.11 method (ASTM E681-04), the registrant has selected a lower flammability limit of 6.2% and the upper flammability limit at 12.3%.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The classification criteria are met to conclude that HFO-1234yf should be classified as extremely flammable.

Therefore the substance should be classified as GHS Flammability Cateory 1 according to EU Directive 67/548/EEC and EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) N0.1272/2008.
