Based on the specific rules provided in the column 2 of the Annex IX of the REACH Regulation, the study on bioaccumulation in aquatic species need not to be conducted if the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (for instance a logKow 3), which is the case of salicylic acid.

Therefore, no new study is needed for this endpoint and salicylic acid should be considered as having a low potential for bioaccumulation.

Studies on the bioaccumulation in aquatic plants and algae are available (Wang and Lay, 2001), but these were not considered as reliable because an unknown part of the resulted BCF might be due to chemical being adsorbed on the exposed organisms and not absorbed in.
