Description of key information

This study (Mayes et al., 1989) was conducted to evaluate the toxicity of Pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) to rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Groups of ten rainbow trout were exposed under static conditions to seven measured concentrations, ranging from 22 to 429 mg/L. The 96 h LC50 was determined to be 157 mg/L (95% CI of 126-195 mg/L). Sublethal effects such as loss of equilibrium (the inability to maintain normal swimming posture), lethargy and erratic movement were observed at 59 mg/L and higher.

Additional information

Similar results of LC50 was obtained in the study according to German Industrial Standard DIN 38412, part 15 (BASF, 1987). 96 hours non GLP study was performed with Leuciscus idus and LC50 value based on not pH-adjusted test solutions was 220 mg/L (nominal test conetnration).
