Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Persistence Assessment

Based on the structure in Benzyldimethylamine no hydrolysable groups are present. The substance can thus be regarded as hydrolytically stable.

Benzyldimethylamine was shown to be 100 % inherently biodegradable after 13 days and to 70% within 7 days and thus fulfilled the criterion for inherent, ultimately biodegradability (BASF, 1987).

Thus, Benzyldimethylamine was not considered persistent.

Bioaccumulation Assessment

Benzyldimethylamine was determined to be none or not highly bioaccumulative. The BCF at a concentration of 500 µg/L is 2.1 to 6.4, and at a concentration of 50 µg/L the BCF is < 6.2 to 22 (MITI-Online, MITI-Buch, 1992).

Thus, Benzyldimethylamine was not considered bioaccumulative.

Toxicity Assessment

Based on the results of the toxicity assessment, Benzyldimethylamine does not fulfil the toxic criterion as the NOEC in Daphnia and algae was determined to be > 0.01 mg/l.
