Description of key information

This summary provides a brief overview of the endpoints in the context of aquatic toxicity which are data requirements according to Reach, Annex VII (Article 18, above 1000t):

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates (WoE)

The EC50 values obtained from these studies are in a similar order of magnitude (48h EC50/LC50 range: 5.4-12.3 mg/L; 24h EC50: 16-42 mg/L). The most conservative 48h-EC50 value (immobilization) of  5.4 mg/L (Canton, 1985) is chosen as key value for assessment.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

Ramos et al. (1999) tested the effects on the population growth of the algae Chlorella pyrenoidosa according to the OECD 201 guideline (1984). The NOEC was 4.4 mg/L. Tests were carried out for 72h. Algae were exposed, in triplicate, to five concentration levels and one control. The pH and temperature values in the tests were approximately 7.4 and 22 ºC, respectively, and the average growth rate of the controls was 1.0 day-1. The study, considered valid for the assessment, provided an EC50 of 22 mg/l (ranging between 16 and 30 mg/l).
