Details on results:
PRELIMINARY TEST
Test substance (ca. 1.13 g) was added to 2 ml of water, pH5 buffer and pH9 buffer and found to be completely soluble. These solutions were analysed by HPLC and gave results of > 428 g/L, > 410 g/L and > 431 g/L respectively. As these solutions were very viscous, the preparation of saturated solutions would prove impractical. Therefore a modified water solubility test was adopted whereby a greater than value of solubility would be determined.
Conclusions:
The water solubility was found to be > 530 g/L at room temperature.
Executive summary:

The water solubility was determined according to OECD 105, using the modified flask method. The test was performed at three different pH values.

The solubility of Benzethonium chloride was determined to be:

> 534 g/l in pH 5 buffer at 20°C

> 543 g/l in water at 20°C

> 530 g/l in pH 9 buffer at 20°C

Description of key information

The water solubility was determined according to OECD 105, using the modified flask method. The test was performed at three different pH values. The solubility of Benzethonium chloride was determined to be > 534 g/l at pH 5, > 543 g/l at pH 7 and > 530 g/l at pH 9 and room temperature.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
