Ecotoxicological data for hexanoic acid, 2-ethyl-, zinc salt, basic are available for acute toxicity to the three trophic levels of aquatic organisms. A GLP-conform study (Klimisch 2) for the effect of hexanoic acid, 2-ethyl-, zinc salt, basic on the growth rate of Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, according to the OECD 201 guideline, resulted in the lowest L(E)C50 value (ErC50=2.72 mg/L; Cheshire EcoSolutions, 2013). The highest sensitivity of algae for hexanoic acid, 2-ethyl-, zinc salt, basic agrees with the high sensitivity of algae for Zn. No chronic toxicity data are available for the effect of hexanoic acid, 2-ethyl-, zinc salt, basic to aquatic organisms and a read-across approach is followed to toxicity data for the dissolved Zn-ion and for 2 -ethyl hexanoic acid.
