The sample of propionitrile that was used in this research was purchased from Eastman Chemical Products Inc., and was purified by drying over magnesium sulfate followed by distillation from freshly added phosphorous pentoxide (process carried out twice).

Conclusions:
Temperatures of transition and heat capacity were determined by Weber and Kilpatrick. Based on their findings, in combination with other studies on boiling point, it can be concluded that the physical state of propionitrile at room temperature is liquid.
