Description of key information

In a study conducted according to OECD Guideline 201 and EU Method C.3 and using Desmodesmus subspicatus as test organism, the EyC50 (0 -72 h) value was 44.7 mg/L and the LOEC and NOEC values were 50 and 25 mg/L, respectively, after 72 h of exposure. For the parameter growth rate the ErC50 (0 -72 h) value was 94.9 mg/L and the LOEC and NOEC values were 50 and 25 mg/L, respectively, after 72 h of exposure.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
94.9 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
25 mg/L

Additional information

In an algal growth inhibition test conducted according to OECD Guideline 201 and EU Method C.3, cultures of Desmodesmus subspicatus were exposed to nominal test substance concentrations of 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 mg/L hexanoic acid, 3,5,5-trimethyl-, tin (2+)salt (2:1) for 72 h under static conditions. The test substance concentrations were checked by DOC analysis at 0, 24, 48, and 72 h after application. The recovery of DOC in test solutions (25 -100 mg/L test substance) was in the range between 87 and 120% of nominal. For the parameter yield the EyC50 (0 -72 h) value was 44.7 mg/L and the LOEC and NOEC values were 50 and 25 mg/L, respectively, after 72 h of exposure. For the parameter growth rate the ErC50 (0 -72 h) value was 94.9 mg/L and the LOEC and NOEC values were 50 and 25 mg/L, respectively, after 72 h of exposure.
