Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The performance of an adsorption/desorption study is not required as the test substance hexanoic acid, 3,5,5-trimethyl-, tin (2+)salt (2:1) undergoes dissociation in contact with water: The dissociation products Sn (IV)O2) and 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid are insoluble in water and indicate a low sorption potential, respectively.

Additional information

According to REACH Regulation (Annex VIII, 9.3.1, column II), the study on sorption/desorption does not need to be done if based on the physico-chemical properties a low sorption potential is to be expected (e.g. low log Kow) or the test substance decays rapidly. Hexanoic acid, 3,5,5-trimethyl-, tin (2+)salt (2:1) undergoes dissociation in contact with water: Sn (II) will be oxidized to insoluble Sn (IV)O2) and the calculated log D of 0.65 at 25°C and pH7 of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid indicates a low sorption potential. Furthermore, the test substance proved to be readily biodegradable in a guideline study.
