Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The chemical safety assessment according to Annex I of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 does not indicate the need to investigate further the long-term toxicity to fish.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to Annex IX of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 long-term toxicity tests on fish do not need to be conducted if the chemical safety assessment of a substance indicates the no need for a further investigation of the effects on fish. According to Annex I of this regulation, the chemical safety assessment triggers further action when the substance or the preparation meets the criteria for classification as dangerous according to Directive 67/548/EEC or Directive 1999/45/EC or is assessed to be a PBT or vPvB. The hazard assessment of 2-ethyl-2-(((1-oxoisooctadecyl)oxy)methyl)-1,3-propanediyl bis (isooctadecanoate) (CAS 68541-50-4) indicates no need to either classify the as dangerous to the environment, nor is the substance a PBT or vPvB substance. Thus no long-term toxicity tests on fish are provided. Furthermore a study testing the chronic toxicity of the structurally similar category member Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd., triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS 68002-78-8according to OECD guideline 211 demonstrated no toxic effects of the substance on survival and reproduction of Daphnia magna up to the limit of water solubility (NOELR (21 d) ≥ 0.11 g/L) (Grell, 2013).Based on the available data long-term toxic effects of 2-ethyl-2-(((1-oxoisooctadecyl)oxy)methyl)-1,3-propanediyl bis (isooctadecanoate) (CAS 68541-50-4) on fish are not to be expected. Therefore and for reasons of animal welfare, long-term testing on fish is not proposed.
