Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT assessment of Castor oil, ester with glycerol (CAS 68459-67-6) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2017).

Persistence

Castor oil, ester with glycerol (CAS 68459-67-6) is readily biodegradable. Thus, the substance does not meet the screening criterion for persistence and it is not considered to be P or vP.

Bioaccumulation

The substance is readily biodegradable and thus not persistent (P or vP). Therefore, no B-assessment was carried out since it is only required if the substance fulfills the P or vP criteria, according to the guideline (Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment Chapter R.11: PBT/vPvB assessment, 2017).

Toxicity

The available chronic effect concentrations (aquatic algae) are0.01 mg/L and the available acute effect concentrations are0.1 mg/L (fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae). Therefore, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 are not fulfilled and the target substance does not meet the T criterion.

In conclusion, the substance is not PBT/vPvB.
