Description of key information

L-lysine HCl was not genotoxic in any of the in vitro tests performed and no (pre)-neoplastic effects were seen in the 90-day studies performed. Moreover, lysine is an essential amino acid that is required for normal functioning of humans. Therefore, the carcinogenicity study can be waived.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the information available L-lysine HCl is not a genotoxic carcinogen and therefore no classification(67/548/EEC and CLP regulation) as carcinogen is required.
