Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A DSC study found a phase change at 930°C. No melting point was found in the study. The melting point of the substance is expected to be higher than the upper temperature limit used in the study i.e. 1380°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
1 380 °C

Additional information

A study was conducted on the registered substance to determine the melting point of the substance. The melting point of the test substance was determined in accordance with the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals 102. The sample was tested by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) to view its thermal characteristics from ambient temperature to 500°C, in particular to observe if there is a melting phase on heating. The DSC experiment to 500°C showed little, therefore a second experiment was carried out using high temperature DSC to extend the previous temperature range to 1380°C. The DSC showed a peak temperature of 930°C. This was considered to be a phase change and not a melting point, which would be expected at higher temperatures than those used in the study i.e. the melting point of the registered substance is >1380°C.
