Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Sika Härter LJ can be considered as "not readily biodegradable". The degree of biodegradation reached 30% after 28 days. The 10 d-window began on day 5 and 25 % were reached at its end, staying below the pass level of 60 % given in the OECD guideline. However, Sika Härter LJ is considered to be inherently biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
inherently biodegradable, not fulfilling specific criteria
Type of water:
freshwater

Additional information

Sika Härter LJ was tested for ready biodegradability in the Manometric Respirometry Test according to OECD guideline 301F and EU method C.4-D. The test item was tested using a nominal concentration of 73 mg test item/L (equivalent to a theoretical oxygen demand of 200 mg O2/L). Activated sludge was used as inoculum. The test was left running for 28 days. All validity criteria were met. The reference item reached the pass level of 60% on day 5. (criterion: < 14). The following data could be determined for the test item Sika Härter LJ:

10-day-window: day 5-15

degradation at the end of 10-day-window: 25 %

degradation at the end of the test: 30 %

pass level:  60% at the end of 10-d-window

Sika Härter LJ is regarded to be not readily biodegradable according to OECD 301F/EU C.4-D. However, Sika Härter LJ is considered to be inherently biodegradable.

Other information: data on biodegradability of the hydrolysis product 2,2-Dimethyl-3-lauroyloxy-propanal (CAS No. 102985-93-3)

2,2-Dimethyl-3-lauroyloxy-propanal was tested for ready biodegradability using a test item concentration corresponding to 20 mg organic carbon/L (nominal) in test medium following OECD 301B and EU-Guideline C.4-C. Aniline was chosen as reference item. Activated sludge was used as inoculum (concentration in the test 25 mg drymatter/L). The test was left running for 28 days. All validity criteria were met. Degradation of the reference item was 75 % after seven days. The degradation of test item at end of the test was 91 %. Therefore the 2,2-Dimethyl-3-lauroyloxy-propanal was considered to be readily biodegradable.
