In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, the hydrolysis test (required in section 9.2.2.1) does not need to be conducted, as the test substance is highly insoluble in water (< 1 µg/L at 20 °C). As no functional groups indicate the potential for hydrolysis, no hydrolysis is expected.

The ready biodegradability of the test item was assessed over a 28 day period by the modified Sturm test (OECD 301B). The nominal test concentrations were 10 and 20 mg/L. The test material attained up to 8 and 2 % biodegradation after 28 days whereas the positive control substance (Aniline) was 94.4 % degraded after 28 days. These results indicate that the test item cannot be classified readily biodegradable under conditions of the test.

The test substance was found to be poorly biodegradable in an OECD 301B study. It is assumed that the results of simulation studies would not reveal any different findings. Therefore, simulation studies in water/sediment and soil are not provided.

The bioconcentration factor in fish was investigated in two GLP studies with carp according to OECD 305 completed 2000 and 2007.

The BCFs in the first study ranged from 1120 to 2780 in the test concentration 0.001mg/L (nominal) and from 2300 to 5580 in the test concentration 0.0001mg/L (nominal) during 8 weeks. The BCFs in the second study ranged during the exposure period of 60 days from 570 to 1400 and from 620 to 1800 for the test concentrations of 0.0001mg/L and 0.00001 mg/L, respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the substance has a BCF of above 5000.

The calculated Koc of 451200 L/kg indicates immobility in soil and adsorption to suspended particles.

As the substance is furthermore not volatile and poorly water soluble distribution to soil, sediment and sludge is expected if released to environment.
