Description of key information

Short term toxicity to fish:

Study was conducted to access the effect of test chemical to zebrafishDanio rerio. Test was conducted according to OECD Guideline 203 (Fish, Acute Toxicity Test). The range of test concentration was taken to evaluate effects i.e.,25 mg/L, 32.5 mg/L, 42.25 mg/L, 54.92 mg/L & 71.4 mg/L. Experiment was performed for the period of 96 hours in a static conditions.

From the results obtained, it is observed that the median lethal concentration i.e., LC50 was to be 42.25 mg/l . Based on the LC50, it can be consider that the chemical was toxic and can be classified into aq aquatic chronic 3 as per the CLP classification criteria.

Long term Toxicity to Fish:

The effect of test chemical was studied on the fish. Based on the prediction model the effect on the mortality was studied for 28 days in flow through system. The outcome of the results determine that the NOEC value is 1.252 mg/L. Based on the NOEC the test chemical doesnot fall under the classsification criteria of CLP.

Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

Aim of this study was to assess the short term toxicity of test chemical to aquatic invertebrates daphnia magna. Study was performed according to the OECD Guideline 202 (Daphnia sp. Acute Immobilisation Test) in a static system for the total exposure period of 48 hrs.

A nominal test concentrations were used i.e., 4.0, 10.0, 17.0, 30.0, 55.0 and 100.0 mg/L. Effects on immobilisation were observed for 48 hours. With the test substance one positive control Potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) was also run simultaneously. After the exposure of chemical, effect concentration EC50 was calculated using nonlinear regression by the software Prism 4.0.

The median effective concentration (EC50) for the test substance to Daphnia magna was determined to be 35.2 mg/L based on inhibition of mobility. Based on the EC50 value, substance is likely to be hazardous to aquatic invertebrate and can be classified as aquatic chronic 3 category as per the CLP classification criteria.

Long term toxicity to aquatic invetebrates:

The effect of test chemical was studied on the daphnia magna. Based on the prediction model the effect on the reproduction was studied for 21 days in flow through system. The outcome of the results determine that the NOEC value is 0.936 mg/L.

Based on the CLP criteria the test chemical is aquatic chronic category 2.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria:

Aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of test chemical on the test organism Desmodesmus subspicatus (previous name: Scenedesmus subspicatus). Test was conducted according to the OECD guideline 201. The stock solution was prepared by dissolving test chemical in DMSO. Test solutions of required concentrations were prepared by mixing the stock solution of the test sample with OECD growth medium and inoculum culture. Various concentration i.e., 1.0, 1.8, 3.2, 5.8, and 10.5 mg/L were used.

Along with the test substance one positive control Potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) was also run simultaneously. After the exposure of chemical, effect concentration EC50 was calculated using nonlinear regression by the software Prism 4.0. Effect on the growth of algae was determine after an exposure period of 72 hrs.

The median effective concentration (EC50) for the test substance to algae was determined to 7.42 mg/L , based on the inhibition of growth rate.Based on the EC50 value, which indicates that the substance is likely to be hazardous can be classified as aquatic chronic 2 category as per the CLP classification criteria.

Toxicity to microorganism:

The study was conducted to evaluate the toxic effects of the test chemical on the microorganism Tetrahynema pyriformis. The test was conducted for the period of 40-h in static conditions. Five different concentrations were taken to evaluate the ICG 5, median inhibition growth concentration. Test was conducted in the replicates and the growth inhibition was recorded using spectrophotometrically. Based on the results obtained from the experiment the ICG 50 was determined as 0.18 mg/L
