In vivo skin irritation study was performed in rabbits using test chemical 2 -Picoline (CAS no.: 109 -06 -8, E.C. no.: 203 -643 -7). 6 Albino rabbits were treated with the test chemical. Test chemical was administered dermally to the animals and were further observed for clinical signs of irritation at 4, 24 and 48 hours. Moderate erythema was observed. 2. In vivo skin irritation study was performed in rabbits using testchemical 2 -Picoline (CAS no.: 109 -06 -8, E.C. no.: 203 -643 -7). Rabbits were treated with the test chemical. Test chemical was administered dermally to the animals onto the intact and abraded skin. Animals were further observed for clinical signs of irritation. Severe burning was accompanied by severe hyperemia and moderate edema after single application.Severe scar with moderate scabbing remained after 21 days. The test item was severely irritating to rabbit skin. Hence, the test chemical can be considered as "Category 2" according to the CLP.

3. In vivo skin irritation study was performed in rabbits using testchemical 3 -Picoline (CAS no.: 108 -99 -6, E.C. no.: 203 -636 -9). 6 Albino rabbits were treated with the test chemical. Test chemical was administered dermally to the animals and were further observed for clinical signs of irritation. Irritation was observed. Hence, the test chemical can be considered as "Category 2" according to the CLP.

Eye irritation:

2. The ocular irritation potential of 3-methylpyridine was assessed in rabbits. Undiluted 3-methylpyridine (CAS no.108 -99 -6, E.C. no.: 203 -636 -9)was applied to the eyes of male New Zealand albino rabbits and observed for signs of irritation till 7 or 14 days.Following 7 or 14 days rabbits were killed and histological examinations were performed on the eyes. Eye irritation was characterized by ocular irritation indices (OII). Eye irritation assessments showed that irritation was maximal either 1 hr or 1 day after exposure. Histological examination of the eyes showed keratitis lesions in corneal epithelial tissue, fibrillary edematous lamallae dissociation, and cellular inflammatory infiltration. Over longer periods of time, which included recovery, 3-methylpyridine was considered to be severely irritating to rabbit eyes and can be considered under "Category 2", as per the CLP criteria.

The skin and eye irritation potential of test chemical was observed in various studies. The results obtained from these studies indicate that the chemical is likely to cause skin and eye irritation. Hence the test chemical can be classified as "Category 2" irritant as per CLP.
