Description of key information

Auto flammability = none observed, EU Method A16, Tremain (2008).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In the key study Tremain (2008), the auto flammability of the test material was determined in a GLP study conducted in accordance with EU Test Method A16. This study was assigned a reliability score of 1 in line with the principles for assessing data quality as define by Klimisch (1997).

An aliquot of the test material was suspended in a stainless steel mesh cube (approximately 20 x 20 x 20 mm) in an oven. A thermocouple was placed in the centre of the sample and another in the oven. The oven temperature was programmed to increase from ambient to 325 °C (which was approximately 10 °C higher than the melting temperature determined in the submitted study (Butler & White, 2008)) at a rate of 0.5 °C/min. The temperature/time curves relating to the condition in the centre of the sample and the oven were recorded on a two channel chart recorder.

Under the conditions of the test, the cube contained only black charred solid material. The test material was determined not to have a relative self-ignition temperature below its melting temperature.
