d (20, w) (density of water at 20 °C) = 0.9982 g/mL

d (4, w) (density of water at 4 °C) = 0.99997 g/mL

Conclusions:
The relative density of Special Brilliant Blue FFR at 20 °C was determined as 1.273.
Executive summary:

The relative density of Special Brilliant Blue FFR was determined according to OECD 109, which is in all relevant parts similar to EC A.3. The solid sample was accurately weighed into a 20 mL pycnometer and by displacement of the solvent (n-heptane), its equivalent volume was determined. Finally, the density of the sample was calculated.

The relative density of Special Brilliant Blue FFR at 20 °C was determined as 1.273.

Two tests with different amounts of the test item were performed to determine the relative density D420 at a temperature of 20 °C ± 0.01 °C. Table 5 compiles the results.

Table 5:       Results of the measurement of the density of the test item

Test No.

Temperature [°C]

Amount of test item [g]

Average sample volume [cm³]

Density [g/cm³]*

 1  20  9.36  7.22822  1.29525
 2  20  8.67  6.67461  1.29920

* The pressurizing-expansion cycles are performed until 5 subsequent volume measurements have a relative standard deviation (RSD) of ≤ 0.02 %.

The mean density of the test item at 20 °C is 1.297225 g/cm³. The relative density D420 is calculated by dividing the density of the test item by the density of water at 4 °C (1.297257 g/cm³).

The relative density is D420 = 1.30.

Conclusions:
The relative density of the test item is 1.30 at 20°C.
Executive summary:

According to OECD Test Guidelines 109 (2012), Regulation EC No. 440/2008 Method A.3. and EPA OCSPP Test Guideline 830.7300 (2002), the relative density D420 of the test item Hydrogen [4-[[4-diethylamino)phenyl][4-[ethyl[(3-sulphonatobenzyl)amino]-o-tolyl]methylene]-3-methylcylohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene](ethyl)3-sulphonatobenzyl)ammonium, sodium salt at 20 °C ± 0.01 °C (compared to water at 4 °C) is D420 = 1.30.

Description of key information

The relative density of Special Brilliant Blue FFR was determined according to OECD 109, which is in all relevant parts similar to EC A.3. The solid sample was accurately weighed into a 20 mL pycnometer and by displacement of the solvent (n-heptane), its equivalent volume was determined. Finally, the density of the sample was calculated (Opala 2017).

The relative density of Special Brilliant Blue FFR at 20 °C was determined as 1.273.

According to OECD Test Guidelines 109 (2012), Regulation EC No. 440/2008 Method A.3. and EPA OCSPP Test Guideline 830.7300 (2002), the relative density D420 of the test item Hydrogen [4-[[4-diethylamino)phenyl][4-[ethyl[(3-sulphonatobenzyl)amino]-o-tolyl]methylene]-3-methylcylohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene](ethyl)3-sulphonatobenzyl)ammonium, sodium salt at 20 °C ± 0.01 °C (compared to water at 4 °C) is D420 = 1.30 (Kremer 2018).
