Sampling and analysis
- Analytical monitoring:
- yes
- Details on sampling:
- The test solutions were collected from the negative control, WSF control, and 100 mg/L test solution at test initiation, renewal, and at test completion.
Test solutions
- Vehicle:
- no
- Details on test solutions:
- The test item is a difficult item as defined by the OECD Guideline 23 (2000) because it is a multi-component substance with inconsistent water solubility. In order to maximise the amount of test item in solution, the test solutions were prepared as water soluble fractions (WSF) using the methodology described below.
One water soluble fraction (WSF) was prepared at 100 mg/L nominal loading rate and tested alongside a negative control, and a WSF control. Two sets of WSFs were prepared to create test solutions for test initiation and for the water renewal.
Each solution was stirred on a stirplate using a magnetic stir bar to create a vortex (~10%) and with plexiglass to avoid contamination and evaporation. Stirring occurred for approximately 20 hours at which time the solutions were drained through the side arm located at the bottom third of the aspirator bottle, discarding the first ~100 mL.
