Additional information

There are no reliable data available for [3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyl]dimethoxy(methyl)silane (CAS 65779-47-5), therefore reliable data have been read across from [3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyl]diethoxy(methyl)silane (CAS 2897-60-1).

The test substance, [3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyl]diethoxy(methyl)silane (CAS 2897-60-1), is susceptible to two separate hydrolysis reactions of its different functional groups, as described in Section 5.1.2 of IUCLID. The available aquatic ecotoxicity studies conducted with this substance are consistent with this and also indicate the formation of precipitated condensation products at longer time scales. Therefore it is likely that the test organisms were predominantly exposed to a mixture of the hydrolysis products of the substance, with some exposure to the parent substance at the beginning of the tests.

Reliable short-term toxicity tests results are available for invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Scenedesmus subspicatus) for [3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyl]diethoxy(methyl)silane (CAS 2897-60-1). The relevant short-term values are:

Daphnia: EC50 (48 h): 15.5 mg/l (expressed in terms of [3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyl]methylsilanediol). Although test concentrations were analytically verified for parent substance, the key value is reported in terms of nominal concentration because the organisms were exposed to a mixture of parent substance and hydrolytical degradation products.

Algae: EC50 (72 h): >25 mg/l; NOEC: 2.5 mg/l  (expressed in terms of [3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyl]methylsilanediol).

Refer to IUCLID Section 6 endpoint summary for further discussion of the approach to chemical safety assessment and justification for read across.
