Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
22 Jan 2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
The test item it could not be filled into the A10 mould. An unbroken strip was formed meeiting guideline requirements. Only 1 preliminary test was perfomed (not 2). The test clearly showed that it was not possible to ignite the test item, (it liquefied)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
1. Because of the properties of the test item it could not be filled into the standard A10 mould. Therefore, an unbroken strip was formed which meets the requirement of the guideline.
2. Only one preliminary test was performed when the guide indicates 2. The test clearly showed that it was not possible to ignite the test item, it liquefied but would not ignite.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
0 min
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The test item is not flammable under the conditions of this test. The test item did not ignite.
Executive summary:

The substance was formed into an unbroken strip about 250 mm long by 20 mm wide by 10 mm high. It was not possible to use the Form (standard EC A10 mould), due to the physical properties of the test item. The flame from a gas burner was applied to one end of the train for a minimum of 2 minutes. The test was performed once. The test item liquefies but it did not ignite.

In the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited. Based on the results of the preliminary test, no main test was performed. Solvent Blue 79B is not flammable.

Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Description of key information

The test item is not flammable under the conditions of this test.

In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the flammability (pyrophoric properties and flammability on contact with water) studies (required in section 7.10 of Annex VII) do not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time and experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance was formed into an unbroken strip about 250 mm long by 20 mm wide by 10 mm high. It was not possible to use the Form (standard EC A10 mould), due to the physical properties of the test item. The flame from a gas burner was applied to one end of the train for a minimum of 2 minutes. The test item liquefies but it did not ignite.

Solvent Blue 79B is not flammable.
