Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

N-Acetyl-DL-tryptophan (CAS 87-32-1) is characterized by high water solubility (0.88 g/L, 20 °C, OECD 105), very low vapour pressure (< 4.6E-10 hPa, 20 °C, OECD 104) and very low log Kow (< -1.7, pH 7, 23 °C, OECD 107), indicating low lipophilicity. The very low vapour pressure indicates that evaporation to the atmosphere and subsequent transport and distribution through the atmospheric compartment is unlikely. Based on the high water solubility and very low log Kow the substance will preferentially distribute into the water compartment. According to experimental findings the substance is hydrolytically stable. However, since the substance is readily biodegradable by microorganisms (74.6% after 28 d corrected for nitrification, OECD 301 F) it will be extensively eliminated in sewage treatment plants. In case of release into the environment, the substance is not expected to persist because ready biodegradability implies it will be rapidly eliminated by microorganisms in both aquatic and terrestrial environments.
